I made a lovely pattern, but it was not valid.

No real way to work out where to go once you have the initial set of dots down...

Hint: the corners are white. the pattern is fairly logical after that.

Completely pointless and stupid. Have to guess. Found valid answer but is not the one they wanted.

@Robaharrison: Don't call a hanjie stupid when you didn't create even one Hanjie yourself...

It is stupid if it is not logical because that is the whole point of the puzzle. The fact that I haven't created one is entirely irrelevant.

Even with the hint, not totally logical, but the pattern itself is nice and pretty simple once you get the base laid out.
